The Geography of Hair

Life in education

For the last eight years I have worked for a product company called UNITE, within those eight years I have had a variety of different job positions and responsibilities. I worked in their salon in San Diego, I was their education coordinator at the head offices in Carlsbad, a Regional Artistic Director in Utah, and currently working as an Art Team Member. Long story short I have been involved within their education department on many levels for some time.

Over the years I have worked all over the country, I’ve taught haircutting classes in Atlanta, worked backstage at New York Fashion Week, worked with sales consultants in Boise, taught styling classes in Washington DC, and coordinated regional events in Philadelphia, just to name a few. There was a time where I was on the road at least one weekend a month and sometimes I was in five different states in a month.

Being an educator for a brand like UNITE has been an incredible experience, not only do their products work amazing, but they are a brand that I believe in. They are always striving to continue to grow their company, give back to the community, and take care of their employees.

This weekend I venture to Carlsbad, California where I will be attending my annual training with UNITE. Once a year they fly their educators to their head offices where they work one on one with us and help us grow as hairstylists and educators. I look forward to this training all year long, not only do I get to train with some amazing hairdressers, but I also get to see some of my friends from around the country. These training are always different, sometimes they are focused on haircutting skills, presentation skills, or how to demonstrate a styling class. I will share with you next week what this training was about.

Unfortunately, I must cut this week’s post short, I have a full day at the salon and then leave straight to the airport. Next week I will be expanding on this post and talk about my trip to Carlsbad, I’ll be exploring what and how hairstylists continue their education.

Until then.
